Stonewall, TX
Stonewall is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of President Lyndon B. Johnson, whose family home, known as the LBJ Ranch or the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, is a major attraction in the area. In fact, the ranch is almost across the street from the Peach Country RV Park. We didn’t tour the ranch this time as we had done that during a previous stay in the area. Aside from its historical significance, Stonewall is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, vineyards, and orchards, making it a scenic destination for wine tasting and outdoor activities. As we were here during the Texas wildflower season, we spent a while exploring places looking for the best wildflowers.
Kerrville Area
We spent a day driving down to Kerrville to do some shopping and revisit the area we stayed for 6 months when COVID hit in 2020. It is a beautiful area. We also visited the Coming King Sculpture Prayer Gardens since it was just too hot (or closed due to COVID) when we were there before. It was the perfect day to make a visit as it was the Saturday before Easter Sunday and the weather was mild.
Park Review – Peach Country RV Park
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Location: Stonewall, TX
Type: Commercial Park
Check-in/Check-out times: 1:00/12:00
Site Quality / Amenities: Roads are asphalt and sites are crushed granite. Each site has a picnic table on a concrete pad. There is also a common grill and picnic area along with a recreation hall with restrooms, showers and a laundry.
Access: Off US-290 between Fredericksburg and Johnson City.
Staff: Our only interaction with staff was at check in and they were friendly and efficient.
Cellular/WiFi: We had decent Verizon coverage and the park had WiFi but we didn’t use it. Site 35, had a good clear view to the north and Starlink worked great from there.
Restaurants: We ate at Mamacita’s Mexican in Fredericksburg which is a sister to the one in Kerrville that we ate at before. It did not disappoint and was very good.
Nearby parks: We didn’t take a close look at any other nearby parks but there are quite a few nearby that look good. One new park southeast of Luckenbach called Firefly Luxury RV Resort looks particularly interesting.
What we liked: The streets in the park are extra wide and easy to navigate. The park was also clean and well maintained.
What we didn’t like: Placement of the utilities is at the center of the grass area between each site and is awkwardly close to the neighbor door and/or patio/picnic table. The patios go across the grass area and go all the way to the neighboring site. We parked on the edge of our site to avoid a tree with our dining slide and that put the neighbor site’s picnic table inches away from the front of our trailer. Not the park’s fault, but after 6 years on the road we finally got hail damage to our truck and trailer after a storm passed through the area while we were there.
Verdict: We could easily stay here again, but honestly, there are a lot of other parks in the area and I’d honestly probably try somewhere else if we stay in the area again.
