Lake Eufaula was named after the nearby town of Eufaula, Oklahoma, which itself was named for the Eufaula tribe, a Muscogee (Creek) Native American group. “Eufaula”: Comes from the Muscogee (Creek) language, and while the exact meaning is debated, it is often believed to mean “they separated here and went to other places” or something similar, referencing tribal divisions.

Completed in 1964 and situated on the Canadian River, Lake Eufaula is Oklahoma’s largest lake, encompassing approximately 102,000 acres with 600 miles of shoreline . The lake is renowned for its exceptional fishing, particularly for species like crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages several marinas and boat ramps, providing ample access for boating and fishing enthusiasts.

Take OK-150 to the park.
Staff: Staff at the Park Office were friendly and helpful but were not fully up to date with activities within the park. We saw park rangers drive through the main loop area but they never ventured into the Lake View Circle.
Cellular/WiFi: I don’t believe there is any WiFi in the park but we had a decent T-mobile signal with about 160Mbps downloads and 7Mbps uploads. Starlink had a relatively obstruction free view of the sky in spite of numerous trees and it achieved about 150Mbps downloads, and 15Mbps uploads.
Restaurants: We stopped by Lin Cuisine IV in Checotah while in town for our weekly Walmart visit. This is a Chinese restaurant and the food was unexpectedly pretty good.
Nearby parks: We didn’t explore any parks nearby.
What we liked: We visited right after schools were getting out for the summer and we expected the park to be busy but it was probably less than 10% full. Some people may have stayed away due to the lake being flooded. For instance, the marina was closed since the walkways going to it were underwater. There were lots of large mature trees that not only provided shade but also made for a beautiful area.
What we didn’t like: Because of recent rains, much of the park and it’s trails were a muddy mess. As previously mentioned the marina and it’s restaurant were closed. The nature center also seemed to have varying hours. Much of the area around the nature center including the exhibits were closed and looked like they hadn’t been usable for years. A lot of the picnic and tent areas were constructed in the mid 1960’s and did not seem to be maintained any more. The entire Longhorn Loop area was closed – possibly due to flooding. Trees could be trimmed up in most areas to keep larger rigs like ours from scraping them. Although the park is usable and a nice place to be in nature it definitely is showing a bit of age and need for some TLC.
Verdict: We’d likely stay here again when travelling through the area. The park is very nice for a rustic experience.

There is also a fairly large homeless population in the area but we never saw them enter the RV park.
Verdict: We would stay here again.

The site (P-67) was plenty long enough for our RV and truck but it was a bit interesting. The exit went out to the park entrance and was beyond the security gate. At night, we couldn’t back up to the trailer because the drive was very narrow and made a turn which would have been difficult to navigate in the dark. Getting out of the site was much easier than it looked like it would be. The nice thing about this site is that it was one of two that are right beside the pond and twin fountains.
Type: Commercial
Access: We followed the parks directions on arriving from the south on I35 and merged onto I44 then taking the first exit to loop back to the park. It seemed like we could have exited I35 to 63’rd directly. On leaving we exited to the east and back to I35 rather than following the directions given, mostly because we really couldn’t turn right out of the park from the entrance road.
Staff: We only interacted with the gate attendant who also guided us to the site. He was friendly and helpful.
Amenities: Onsite restaurant, pool, hot tub and splash pad, mini golf, playground, clubhouse, and convenience store.
Cellular/WiFi: Verizon and AT&T were both good.
Restaurants: We didn’t eat out while staying in the park.
What we liked: We didn’t spend much time at the park but it seemed really nice and had some nice amenities although due to COVID-19 and lack of time we didn’t explore them. Several museums are in the area.
What we didn’t like: Sleightly difficult to get to the park but overall not too bad. Awkward driveway on our site.
Nearby Parks: None
Verdict: We would stay here again when travelling through.

Nice park with large trees, short hiking trails and access to Lake Eufaula.

Our site was plenty long for our rig and truck. Sites are fairly close together with a picnic table for each.
Type: Commercial Park
Access: Just off Interstate 40 West of Checotah, OK. Take exit 255 (Pierce Rd.) then go West on the North service road.
Staff: Staff interaction was good but minimal.
Amenities: Fishing pond, Swimming pool (in season), cabins, playground, laundry. Access to Lake Eufaula via a short trail at the back of the park.
Cellular/WiFi: Verizon and AT&T were both good with AT&T being the fastest. They claimed to have WiFi but we did not see it or use it.
What we liked: Easy access, nice clean park. Pretty park with a fair amount of trees but we still got satellite at site 61. Decent price for a KOA part – ~$35 per night.
What we didn’t like: Although the sites are gravel, there wasn’t much gravel left. During wet weather they could be messy. Some road noise from Interstate 40. Quite a few long term residents and at least one trailer stored in a site that didn’t look like it had been used for a while. The nearest restaurants and stores are about 15 miles away in either Checotah or Henryetta. Both have Walmarts. KOAs area always more expensive than what you get but this was one of the least expensive KOAs we have stayed at.
Verdict: This park is nice with large mature trees and decent sites as long as it’s not wet and muddy. Deluxe sites with concrete patios would be nice in wet weather. Good for a short stay enroute as there wouldn’t be a lot to do here for longer stays.

Nice newer park in the southwest Oklahoma City area good for short stays.

Rating:
Site Quality: Concrete roads and pads. Most sites are pull through although perimeter sites were back in. These sites seemed to be occupied by more long term visitors although they were kept clean and in good order.
Type: Commercial
Access: Easy access from Interstate 40 in southwest Oklahoma City. Easy access to the Kilpatrick Turnpike to go north to visit relatives.
Staff: We had minimal interaction but everyone was cordial and helpful.
Amenities: 50A power with full hookups. Picnic table at each site. There were 3 storm shelters within the park which could be helpful since this area of the country frequently gets bad weather. In fact, we were under tornado watches and warnings the first night we were here. There are restroom/shower facilities as well as a laundry in the clubhouse although we didn’t use any of them. The office area was clean and well maintained so the other facilities likely were as well. There is a playground, dog run and a swimming pool.
Cellular/WiFi: Verizon and AT&T were decent (2-3 bars) without amplification. Data speeds were somewhat slow at times and usually below 10 Mbps.
What we liked: Newer park surrounded by retail options for shopping and eating. The park was well maintained. Trash pickup daily at your site.
What we didn’t like: Some highway noise from Interstate 40 but not enough at night to keep us awake.
Verdict: Although a bit far from our relatives, this is one of only a few decent parks in the OKC area. This is not a destination stop but is a good, safe place for short stays when travelling through the area or visiting relatives. We would stay here again.

Location: Claremore, Oklahoma
Site Quality: Gravel roads throughout the park with gravel pull thru and back in spots. In addition some spots were just grass.
Type: Commercial
Access: About 3 miles off Interstate 44 (Turner Turnpike) off highway 20 East of Claremore with good access for big rigs.
Staff: Friendly and helpful.
Amenities: Laundry facilities along with showers and restrooms.
Cellular/WiFi: AT&T and Verizon 4 bars and decent speeds (7.78 Mbps Verizon / 7.69 Mbps AT&T). WiFi was available but we did not use it.
What we liked: Quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Felt safe. Site (#37) was more than large enough for a 41′ RV and the truck. The Cherokee Casino is adjacent to the RV park. This could be good or bad but they did have a cheap restaurant with decent food.
What we didn’t like: Will Rogers Downs is adjacent to the park although the season did not start for another week when we stayed there (August 30, 2018). Again, this could be both good and bad depending on your preference. Some sites backed up to the track so you could watch the races from your RV.

Location: Guthrie, Oklahoma
Site Quality: Gravel roads throughout the park with gravel pull thru and back in spots.
Type: Commercial
Access: About a half mile off Interstate 35 on East Seward Rd. with decent access for big rigs.
Staff: Friendly and helpful. We needed some branches trimmed and the owner’s wife came right away and took care of it.
Amenities: Laundry facilities along with showers and restrooms. Store with minimal restaurant and Propane for sale.
Cellular/WiFi: AT&T and Verizon 4 bars and decent speeds (2-4 Mbps Verizon / 17 Mbps AT&T). WiFi was available but we did not use it.
What we liked: Quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Felt safe. Site (#35) was big enough for a 41′ RV and the truck.
What we didn’t like: Was a bit tight navigating for a rig our size. We were also very close to our next door neighbor. We really wouldn’t have much of an opportunity to be outside at our site here.
